The Golden Cliffs

Driving into Yiti feels like entering a different world. The road winds through dramatic, "melted" chocolate-colored mountains before opening up to a massive sandy bay. The beach is unique because it is framed by towering golden cliffs and a small island just offshore that you can often walk to during low tide. It feels vast, raw, and wonderfully unpolished.

Things to Do

  • The Ultimate Beach BBQ: Yiti is arguably the BBQ capital of Oman. Because the beach is so wide, there is plenty of room to set up a grill, spread out some mats, and enjoy a meal with friends while the waves crash nearby.
  • Wild Camping: This is one of the easiest places to try camping for the first time. You can drive your car right onto the sand (if it's a 4WD) and set up your tent within earshot of the ocean.
  • Low-Tide Exploration: When the tide goes out, a land bridge often appears, allowing you to walk out to the rocky outcrops. It’s a great spot for finding sea shells and watching crabs in the rock pools.
  • Sunset Photography: The way the light hits the orange cliffs at the end of the day is a photographer's dream. The reflections on the wet sand during low tide create a perfect mirror effect.
  • Places to See

  • The Yiti "Sea Stack": A massive, lonely rock formation sitting in the water that has become the iconic symbol of this beach.
  • The Yiti Village: A charming, traditional fishing village just before the beach. You’ll see local fishermen mending their nets and small boats lined up along the shore.
  • The "Hidden" Coves: If you walk to the far left or right ends of the main beach, you can find smaller, more private coves tucked behind the rock faces.
  • Yiti Roundabout Lookout: On the drive in, there is a high point on the road that gives you a stunning "aerial" view of the village, the green date palms, and the blue sea.
  • Trip and Itinerary Advice

    Best Time to Visit

Season: October to April. During these months, the evening breeze is perfect for a bonfire. Time of Day: 4:00 PM is the ideal arrival time. This gives you enough daylight to set up your camp or BBQ and enjoy the transition from golden hour to a starry night.

    Pro Tips

  • Vehicle: You do not need a 4WD to reach Yiti Beach; the road is paved. However, if you plan to drive onto the soft sand to park closer to the water, a 4WD is necessary to avoid getting stuck.
  • Pack Everything: There are very basic grocery stores in Yiti Village, but for wood, charcoal, and marinated meats, it is best to buy everything in Muscat before you head out.
  • Leave No Trace: Because Yiti is so popular, it can sometimes suffer from litter. Be a hero—bring extra trash bags and make sure you leave your spot cleaner than you found it.
  • Suggested Half-Day Itinerary

  • 3:00 PM: Leave Muscat and enjoy the scenic drive through the Wadi Mayh mountains.
  • 3:30 PM: Stop at a local shop in Yiti Village for fresh bread or some snacks.
  • 4:00 PM: Arrive at the beach. Find a spot near the cliffs for some shade.
  • 4:30 PM: Take a long walk to the rocky island while the tide is low.
  • 5:30 PM: Start your BBQ fire just as the sun begins to set behind the mountains.
  • 8:00 PM: Enjoy stargazing away from the city lights before making the short drive back to Muscat.
